Thanksgiving in Leander

Thanksgiving is not only a time for being thankful for all that you have, but also a time for sharing what you have with others.  If you’re looking for a way to help the Leander community this Thanksgiving, check out this list of organizations that can use your help!

Operation Turkey

Operation Turkey
Operation Turkey serves Thanksgiving meals in to go containers to Austin-area homeless and those that otherwise would not have a Thanksgiving dinner.  Volunteering is easy and can even be done with children:  simply sign up to come to one of the Operation Turkey locations, be at that location at 8:00 am on Thanksgiving morning and help pack up food or deliver meals.  It only takes a couple of hours to make a huge impact.

Heroes Night Out - Cedar Park, Tx

Heroes Night Out
We mentioned Heroes Night Out at Veteran’s Day, but this group deserves to be mentioned again.  Not only does this organization put on a Thank-a-Vet-giving dinner, but they also deliver food and clothing monthly to homeless Austin-area vets.  Contact them through their website for more information.

Senior Homes
Leander and Cedar Park have no shortage of senior and nursing homes.  Give one a call and see if they need some help serving their residents at Thanksgiving.  They can frequently use the extra hands and the residents would love the company.

Hill Country Community Ministries - Leander, TX

Hill Country Community Ministries
Hill Country Community Ministries does a tremendous job helping those in need all year long and it’s run right out of Leander.  Their services include a food pantry, and assistance in obtaining clothes, shoes & eyeglasses.  During the holiday season, they distribute around 500 turkeys to families in need.   They can always use donations and helping hands.

Do you know another group in the Leander area that is doing good this holiday season?  Let us know in the comments.

Happy Thanksgiving!
