Election Day in Leander

Vote Badges

Today is Election Day in Leander.  There are four polling places in the city open until 7:00 pm tonight (Saturday):

  • Leander High School at 3301 S Bagdad Rd
  • Leander LIbrary at 1011 S Bagdad Rd
  • Pat Bryson Municipal Hall at 201 N Brushy St.
  • Rouse High School at 1222 Raider Way

On the ballot are four bond measures totaling about $71 million dollars to be levied against property taxes:

Proposition One: Roads

  • $2.6 million to construct East Street from RR 2243 to Hero Way as a two-lane Rd.
  • $6.1 million to extend Metro Dr. as a 4 lane road from the train station to Mel Mathis Ave. to connect the train station to the future Austin Community College campus.
  • $874,617 to add landscaping, street furniture, street lighting, drainage improvements, 6′ sidewalks and street parking to 750′ of North Brushy St. between South St. and Broade St.
  • $7.8 million for Raider Way and East Woodview Drive road improvements including 45′ of pavement, storm sewers, street lighting, water quality facilities, sidewalks and turn lanes.
  • $4.1 million for phase one of the San Gabriel Parkway extension for two lanes from CR 270 to Reagan Blvd with sidewalks and a water line.  Additional rights of way will need to be acquired.  Two lanes would be constructed with this bond and the other two lanes will appear on a future bond.
  • $704,940 to realign W. South St. and S. West St.

Proposition Two: Parks

  • $1.4 million to construct a Walk of Honor, Wall of Honor, benches, landscaping, parking lot, park signs and MIA/POW Labyrinth at Veteran’s Park.
  • $1.5 million to design and construct 1 mile of trail along the South San Gabriel River.
  • $10 million to construct soccer facilities, parking, restroom and utilities at the future San Gabriel River Park.
  • $2.5 million to purchase more land for the San Gabriel River Park.
  • $567,000 to construct a .35 mile trail with trailhead, restroom and small parking lot by Magnolia Creek subdivision.
  • $6.3 million to construct the 125-acre Lakewood Community Park with playscape, splash pad, skate park, trails, picnic pavillion, volleyball courts, nature area, off-leash dog park, amphitheater, wildlife viewing area, parking and restroom.
  • $610,000 for landscaping on East Crystal Falls Pkwy from US 183 to Reagan Blvd.
  • $432,000 for 10′ of temporary trail to connect the Cap Metro station.  Developers would be responsible for taking the trail further in the future.
  • $1.9 million to replace the current soccer fields at Bledsoe Park with 210,000 sq ft of synthetic turf.
  • $400,000 to construct the fourth youth-sized baseball field in Benbrook Ranch Park.

Proposition Three: YMCA

  • $18 million to construct a YMCA similar to the one built in Cedar Park.

Proposition Four: Head Start and Senior Center

  • $4.1 million to construct an 18,500 sq ft building to include 7,014 sq ft for Head Start, 3,968 sq ft. of senior center and 3,806 sq ft. of common area.  This facility would continue to be run by Williamson-Burnet County Opportunities and not by the city.

Also on the ballot are two spots on the city council.
